Northwestern University in Qatar invites applications for a full-time, open-rank faculty appointment in Journalistic Writing and Reporting, to be appointed in the Journalism and Strategic Communication Program. The position start-date is August 1, 2025.
We seek candidates with demonstrated experience in the production of professional journalism content across platforms and university-level journalism education. Teaching expections include two courses per semester, focusing primarily on basic to advanced journalism skills courses required for NU-Q journalism majors. Candidates should have honed storycraft experience and exceptional line-editing skills for text-based assignments, and they should be able to impart skills of story concept, pitching, and story progression as they support students in developing reporting skills and story vision. Candidates should also be able to incorporate story archetypes from Global South media ethos, whenever possible, and guide students editorially in the production of multimedia assignments. Working knowledge of the basics of Associated Press or other styles is a plus. Ideally, the candidate will also possess the ability to develop and teach a Global Journalism course that speaks to an expansive media ecology and a range of ethical and professional standards. There are also opportunities to work with a growing list of interdisciplinary minors, and to collaborate with NU-Q’s Institute for Advanced Study of the Global South, Artificial Intelligence and Media Lab, and Media Majlis.
Candidates for this position would be expected to maintain a scholarly trajectory relative to their field, substantiated through quality journalistic production, creative work, and/or academic publications. Preference will be given to candidates with professional media experience in the Middle East and/or North Africa. A Ph.D. is preferred, but not required.
