New requirement for Northwestern Qatar researchers

Starting January 1, 2024, all Northwestern University Qatar researchers involved in the design, conduct, and reporting of must adapt to a new process. In addition to the Georgetown University Qatar (GU-Q) Institutional Review Board (IRB) application local researchers are accustomed to, this human research process adaptation involves submitting in Northwestern University IRB’s eIRB+ system. Researchers at Northwestern’s Evanston and Chicago campuses currently submit all human research studies in eIRB+, and this adaptation aims to align processes across campuses.

Northwestern University contracts GU-Q IRB for their IRB review services and oversight of human research conduct on the Northwestern Qatar campus. With this contract in place, however, it is still incumbent upon the Northwestern IRB Office to oversee important conflict of interest review and maintain active record of human research conducted under external review with GU-Q IRB.
