George Anghelcev returns to Northwestern University in Qatar as professor in residence in the Journalism & Strategic Communication Program. Anghelcev served as a visiting professor at NU-Q in 2016. He joins NU-Q from Pennsylvania State University where he served as a tenured associate professor in the College of Communications' Department of Advertising and Public Relations. He has taught courses at the University of Minnesota and Babes-Bolyai University in Romania and served as a visiting professor at the University of Nantes in France and Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest, Hungary.
Anghelcev received his PhD in mass communication from the University of Minnesota where his dissertation was on “The Effect of Monetary Incentives on Consumer Willingness to Spread Word of Mouth.” His MA in sociology and BA in mass communication are from Babes-Bolyai University.
His refereed publications include articles in Journal of Marketing Communications, Journal of Social Marketing, Psychology and Marketing, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, International Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Education, Journal of Interactive Advertising, International Journal of Integrated Marketing Communications, Computers in Human Behavior and several other journals. He is also co-editor of a book entitled Interetnica (Civitas Foundation Press).
A frequent presenter at scholarly and professional meetings with nearly 25 refereed research papers; he serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Advertising and the Journal of Social Marketing. His recent publications have taken up such topics as anti-drinking-and-driving advertising, perceptions of climate change, predictors of media multitasking and the role of attention in advertising effectiveness.
