About

Taya Carothers is the manager of Northwestern University’s Qatar Support Office (QSO), where she ensures that operations and programs align with Northwestern Qatar’s mission. Taya has been with Northwestern since 2018 and joined QSO in 2022, bringing a wealth of experience in international education and a diverse academic background.

Taya holds a Bachelor of Arts in international studies and Spanish from the University of Southern Indiana. She then earned two Master’s degrees: a Master of Arts in International Affairs from The American University and a Master’s in natural resources and sustainable development from the United Nations Mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica. Her educational journey was shaped by three study-abroad experiences and meaningful connections with international students and faculty, which inspired her to pursue a career in international higher education.

Beginning her career in 2010 as an international student and scholar advisor at the University of Idaho, Taya went on to serve as associate director of international programs at Lewis-Clark State College. In that role, she gained broad experience in all aspects of international education—from study abroad and English language programs to admissions and recruitment. Taya later returned to academia, earning her Ph.D. in environment and society from Utah State University in 2018, an interdisciplinary social science program.

A passionate advocate for international education, Taya enjoys working with diverse communities of students, scholars, and faculty, helping them navigate complex systems. At Northwestern Qatar, she takes pride in the university’s international presence and is committed to fostering deeper integration between the Qatar and Evanston campuses.

Outside of work, Taya enjoys dance, exploring new restaurants, and attending festivals and events around Chicagoland. She is also embracing her new role as a mother, navigating life with a curious toddler.
