Maurice Hines

About
Maurice Hines serves as Instruction Librarian at Northwestern University in Qatar. Previously, he served as the Instruction Design Librarian at Saint Elizabeth University and as an Instruction Librarian at the American University in Cairo.
Maurice holds three master's degrees: Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers from the Khartoum International Institute for Arabic Language, Library and Information Science from North Carolina Central University, and Arab and Islamic Civilizations from the American University in Cairo.
Earlier in his career, Maurice was an Arabic instructor at Durham Technical Community College, Elon University, and Zaytuna College. He also directed the Arabic program at Bennett College from 2012 to 2014.
His research interests include Information Literacy instruction, reading skills, the use of Research Diaries, and research note-taking according to the Zettelkasten Method. Additionally, Maurice conducts research and publishes in areas such as Archives, oral histories, Arabic language instruction, and Islamic and African American histories.
Maurice was recognized as ACRL’s Featured Teaching Librarian in 2021.
