Goals

  • Teach essential principles for effective storytelling using visual media and how to apply the principles for many applications, from internal organizational communications to marketing, branding, and customer engagement.

  • Facilitate learning essential practical skills in processes and practices of video production, from story design to shooting to editing (i.e., pre-production, production, and post-production).

  • Enable participants to build personal confidence in their knowledge and abilities for how to communicate messages clearly, engagingly, and impactfully using visual media assets.

Outcomes

  1. Plan, capture, and edit video material to effectively communicate messages they have designed and produced for a specified target audience. In short, they will know how to produce visual media assets to achieve strategic objectives.

  2. Utilize visual storytelling techniques to communicate messages in ways that exercise creativity and generate high degrees of engagement.

  3. Produce a capstone video for a decided purpose that demonstrates having learned the essential knowledge and skills featured in this masterclass.

Schedule

  • Two sessions: Wednesday, February 12, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Two sessions: Thursday, February 13, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Session One: Introduction session to understand the essential skills and key principles for producing visual media assets. Participants learn how to plan a production, craft a storyline, decide how to visualize the story for impact, and how to use cameras and lighting. 

Session Two: Participants work in a dedicated studio to practice and develop the essential skills in ways that reflect understanding of key principles.  The instructor and an experienced production assistant work with participants to develop hands-on skills in preparing and capturing visual images.

Session Three: Participants finalize videotaping of visual assets for a story they are producing and are introduced to the editing suite and tools to begin the post-production process. The instructor and production assistant work with participants to develop hands-on skills in post-production.

Session Four: Participants complete their visual story assets, which are screened in the latter part of the session.  The screening process involves receiving and learning to provide professional feedback.

Fees

The course fee is $1,475 USD (QAR 5,369.00) per participant. The fee includes lunch and hospitality service. Participation requires payment in full via Eventbrite at the time of registration. Refunds are provided on the following basis:

  • 100% refund or postponement if cancelled/notified 28 days prior to course commencement.
  • 75% refund or postponement if cancelled/notified 14 days prior to course commencement.
  • 50% refund if cancelled 7 days prior to course commencement.
  • 25% refund if cancelled 48 hours prior to course commencement.
  • 0% refund if cancelled less than 48 prior to course commencement or no show.

Participants who cancel enrolment can choose to transfer the paid fee to a future masterclass rather than receive a refund. Should the course fees differ, participants will receive a refund on the difference or make an additional ‘top-up’ payment.

A 15% discount is offered for Qatar Foundation and university employees in Education City, as well as EC alumni. Northwestern Qatar Executive Education required participants to attend 90% of the course to get a certificate of participation/completion.
