Graduates from the Class of 2022 have been recognized with Latin honors for their academic distinction.
Students were honored with the highest academic honors ahead of Northwestern University’s Commencement ceremony in Evanston.
Latin Honors are awarded in three categories: summa cum laude for the top five percent of the graduating class; magna cum laude for the next eight percent; and cum laude for the next 12 percent after that. This year, a record number of 21 Northwestern Qatar graduates were recognized with honors across categories.
Named valedictorian for achieving the highest academic standing in this year’s class was Kayan Marwan Khraisheh. Khraisheh, Elissa Mohamad Mefleh, Ena Palaska, and Lujain Eyas Naif Assaf all graduated summa cum laude.
Seven students graduated magna cum laude: Bisrat Atalay Tasew, Dalal Garai, Eden Kebede Wagari, Temesgen Mesfin Tewolde, Darrell Pinontoan, Krishna Sharma, and Maryam Gamar.
Ten received cum laude recognition: Afnan Yusri Anwer Tag, Fatima Maher Issa Dauleh, Ghada Essa H E AlMannai, Giordana Fogaca Bido, Hissa Mohammed A A Al-Mannai, Iffah Abid Kitchlew, Karim Emara, Lojaina Mohammed Ibrahem Gomaa, Syeda Safoora Shah, and Yanis Mohan Badis Ramadan Cherif.

Khraisheh, who will be attending graduate school at Texas A&M in the United States, says she plans to continue her interest in research in health communication that she developed at Northwestern Qatar. “I am very grateful and excited to have been accepted into a PhD program, so after graduation, I look forward to furthering my research in the fields of science and health communication,” said Khraisheh.
Another student receiving academic honors, Karim Emara, said that he plans to pursue an advanced degree in cinematography and directing at Boston University before embarking on a career in higher education. “I nurtured my passion for filmmaking at NU-Q, and I want to expand that professionally after graduation and even share it with other students in the future as a professor,” said Emara.
