Northwestern Qatar and GCO collaborate to upskill national talent in crisis communication

Northwestern University in Qatar’s Executive Education Program continues to advance communication capacity in Qatar. The program delivered a specialized training course, “Crisis Communications Strategy and Preparation,” aimed at strengthening the crisis management capabilities of public relations and communication leaders from 21 governmental and semi-governmental entities.
 
Organized in collaboration with Qatar’s Government Communication Office (GCO), the five-day training, taught by Professor Mohammed Ibahrine, brought together 22 participants on campus. The collaboration reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to building a highly skilled communication workforce that supports the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The course was custom-designed to address key competencies in crisis management, enabling participants to enhance their strategic communication skills and readiness to manage crises effectively. Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al Thani, director of GCO, underscored their commitment to national development, stating, “The GCO continues to lead efforts in empowering governmental and semi-governmental entities by upskilling national talent in strategic communications and media. These efforts are instrumental in showcasing Qatar’s successes and reinforcing its international stature, fully aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030 emphasis on human capital development.”
 
Highlighting the program’s tailored approach, Greg Lowe, director of the Executive Education Program, said, “The collaboration with the Government Communications Office reflects the Executive Education Program’s dedication to delivering customized professional development solutions. Leveraging Northwestern Qatar’s expertise in strategic communications and digital media, we designed a tailored masterclass on Crisis Communications Strategy and Preparedness to meet the GCO’s specific needs. Taught by Professor in Residence Mohammed Ibahrine, this course was our first Arabic-language offering, underscoring our commitment to custom training aligned with partner organizations’ priorities.”
