The Media Majlis at Northwestern University in Qatar has announced its sponsorship of the International Museum Construction Congress (IMCC), which is taking place in Oman from February 25 to 27.
The museum, the first in the region to receive accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, is a gold sponsor of the event, which annually brings together world-renowned museum leaders and design professionals around the world. Now in its seventh year, the IMCC is coming to Oman for the first time, following successful congresses held in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Hong Kong, London, the UAE, and Oslo, among others.
“The Media Majlis is a hub for innovation and exchange, both within our institution and within the broader community, " said Marwan M. Kraidy, dean and CEO of Northwestern Qatar. “Our collaboration with the International Museum Construction Congress is part of our ongoing commitment to advancing excellence in the global and regional cultural landscape."
In making the announcement, Alfredo Cramerotti, director of The Media Majlis, said, “We are proud to sponsor such a pivotal international event within our field that brings together the world’s museum leaders to raise benchmarks within the global and regional industry.” He added, “As times change, technology advances, and discourse continuously pivots, it is important that we continue to support and encourage the creative fields in the region.”
Safa Arshad, manager of audiences and community outreach at The Media Majlis, says the event will put a spotlight on some of the world’s most exciting developments in the industry, which are right here in the Gulf. “From Qatar to Saudi Arabia and beyond, some of the most talked-about projects are on our doorstep, and it is important that we not only lead the conversation but also amplify voices from the Global South, thus leveling the playing field across all industries and ensuring inclusive and diverse perspectives guide the discourse.”
Attendees of the IMCC take part in a packed schedule of talks, panel discussions, networking sessions, and cultural excursions. Topics on the agenda include multisensory museum interpretation, accessibility within the creative industries, and managing ambitions and expectations for museum projects in an inflationary market.
It also includes several case studies from museum leaders, architects, project managers and directors, administrators, collections and exhibition directions, and others involved with projects that are either in the planning phase, with building underway or recently completed. Examples are Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah Gate, M+ in Hong Kong, and the journey of cultural regeneration that is ongoing in Glasgow, Scotland.
