Northwestern Qatar hosts 2025 CIS Middle East Institute

March 25, 2025

Northwestern Qatar welcomed university admission officers and college counseling professionals from across the Middle East and beyond for the 2025 Council of International Schools (CIS) Middle East Institute on February 21 and 22. The two-day event featured discussions on admissions trends, recruitment strategies, and the role of international education in guiding students toward global academic opportunities.

The program included professional development sessions and networking opportunities, creating a space for school counselors and university representatives to exchange insights on student advising and admissions processes. Associate Professor Spencer Striker delivered the keynote address, exploring the latest advancements in AI technology and its applications in higher education. Panel discussions and workshops covered undergraduate admissions, student mobility, and evolving approaches to recruitment in the GCC.

A university fair offered students from local international schools a chance to meet university representatives, ask questions, and explore academic options firsthand. Visiting counselors also took part in guided tours of Education City, a dhow cruise along Doha’s coastline, and a closing ceremony featuring traditional sword dancing, Henna art, and a falconry showcase.

“The CIS Middle East Institute provides a space for meaningful conversations between universities and high schools, helping students navigate their academic journeys,” said Alex Schultes, assistant dean for the student experience and interim director of admissions at Northwestern Qatar. “Bringing this event to Northwestern Qatar created opportunities for collaboration and engagement with the region’s education community.”

Hosting the CIS Middle East Institute reflects Northwestern Qatar’s commitment to advancing global connections in higher education, supporting students in their academic aspirations, and strengthening partnerships across international learning communities.
