Rawabet Conference Series

Northwestern University in Qatar is expanding its contribution to academic dialogue with its evolving Rawabet conference series aimed at facilitating discussions on significant issues impacting the region and forging connections between timeless issues and timely topics.

The Arabic text Rawabet, meaning “nexus” or “connections” in Arabic, reflects the series’ goal: to serve as an international platform allowing varying perspectives to intellectualize both enduring issues and emerging challenges. Each conference or workshop will focus on specific themes, with an emphasis on underrepresented perspectives from the Global South at international debates.

The Rawabet Conference Series embodies core values that align with Northwestern University in Qatar’s mission and vision

Intellectual Exchange

At the heart of Rawabet is the commitment to serve as a nexus for diverse perspectives, fostering conversations that connect enduring issues with emerging topics. The series emphasizes not only debate but also the intellectual exchange necessary for robust academic discourse.

Collaboration, Inclusivity and Representation

Rawabet aims to prioritize voices and experiences from the Global South, often underrepresented in global academic conversations. This inclusivity reinforces Northwestern Qatar’s mission to bring regional perspectives into the global dialogue, recognizing the richness these perspectives offer.

Academic Excellence and Rigor

Each event in the series reflects a high standard of scholarly inquiry, with topics that encourage nuanced analysis of complex issues like racial privilege and anti-Blackness. The approach is rooted in academic rigor, contributing meaningfully to Northwestern’s standing as a leading academic and research institution.

Community Engagement and Sustained Global Connections

By focusing on topics relevant to the region and addressing issues with universal implications, Rawabet strengthens Northwestern Qatar’s role as a bridge between regional and global communities. This value aligns with the series’ mission to create sustainable, meaningful, impactful spaces for critical thought and dialogue.

The logo represents the exchange of ideas, with the central letter "Alif" serving as a symbolic nexus—a focal point of intellectual connection. It reflects Northwestern Qatar's role as a hub that fosters dynamic intellectual engagement. The design incorporates a flowing arrow that moves from the last letter to the first, symbolizing the continuous, circular movement of ideas converging at this central point.
